FTI Engineering received EASA STC approval for their Embraer EMB-135/EMB-145 series ADS-B Out upgrade. This STC provides operators with a cost effective and easily installed solution to meet the upcoming ADS-B Out mandate in 2020. The design entails the incorporation of a standalone Garmin GPS3000 receiver, in conjunction with upgrades of the existing Honeywell Transponders to DO-260B compliant versions. The same STC also gives the operator the choice of simply upgrading the existing Honeywell GPS receivers, rather than installing the standalone Garmin unit, should the individual aircraft’s configuration permit. FAA validation of the STC is currently ongoing and is expected to be received in Q1 2019.
