FAQ

What is the JET Fuel Conversion Kit?

The JET Fuel Conversion Kit includes everything needed to replace the existing engine and propeller with the CONTINENTAL CD-300 and the MTV-12 propeller. It is delivered pre-assembled and tested; the engine is already mounted on the engine mount, including all components installed on the engine.

The main components are:

  • CONTINENTAL CD-300 engine

  • MTV-12 propeller incl. governor

  • Engine display (replaces the existing engine instruments)

  • “Firewall Forward” installation hardware (new engine mount, heat exchanger, lines, hoses, wiring harnesses etc.)

  • New main battery

  • Switches for engine control in the cockpit

  • New jet fuel tank caps (larger standard jet fuel size)

What are the advantages of the retrofit compared to my current engine?

The conversion transforms your aircraft into a completely new experience.

  • Lower fuel consumption: Up to 40% lower overall consumption; 26% savings at 75% power.

  • Lower operating costs: Up to 50% savings compared to Avgas engines due to reduced downtime and lower fuel consumption.
  • Single-lever control: No manual propeller adjustment required; no need to monitor exhaust gas temperatures (EGT), fuel flow, or boost pressure.
  • Noise reduction: Maximum takeoff RPM of only 2,340, which drops to 2,000 RPM or less during cruise flight.
  • Turbo performance: Maximum continuous power available up to 10,000 ft; 80% power up to an altitude of 15,000 ft.
  • Greater range: Thanks to the increased efficiency of the CD-300 in combination with the MTV-12 propeller, a 30% increase in range can be achieved.
  • Lower emissions: Due to the replacement of Avgas (unleaded) and significantly reduced fuel consumption.

Does that result in a lower payload?

Yes, the diesel-powered engine does add some extra weight. We estimate the difference to be around 80 lbs compared to a conventional naturally aspirated avgas engine, and only 10 to 20 lbs compared to the turbocharged version. We will confirm these figures once the prototype has been weighed.

Is the kit SAF-compatible?

Yes, the conversion kit allows you to significantly reduce your carbon footprint by using SAF.

When will it be available?

The first kits will be delivered in 2027.

How much does the retrofit cost and when will the investment pay off?

The estimated price for the retrofit kit is approximately € 300,000 (excluding tax). Using our life-cycle cost calculator, we’d be happy to work with you to determine your specific savings and the return on investment.

In which countries is the conversion kit approved?

EASA approval and FAA validation are expected in 2027. Certification in other countries will be pursued as needed. We invite you to contact us early on to support the planning process and expedite local validation procedures.

How many units can be supplied per year?

We will start with 10 shipments in 2026, double that number the following year and plan to reach an annual capacity of 50 kits by 2029.

Where can I have the conversion done?

Every Continental Installation Center is authorized to perform installations e.g. Aeroservice Lesce Bled.
